According to IRNA’s science and education group from the National Research Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, the fourth national symposium and the second international CRISPR symposium (gene editing) with the focus of the National Research Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and the cooperation of the Research Deputy of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, Development Headquarters Biotechnology, Stem Cell Development Headquarters, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Islamic Azad University will be held on June 30th and 31st.

This symposium deals with the development of technologies, transfer, and sharing of experiences and achievements in this field with the presence of researchers, researchers, students, and practitioners in various fields of biological and agricultural sciences and other related medical, technical, and industrial sciences.

In this symposium, in addition to speakers from America, France, Pakistan, and Canada, 10 local researchers will be the main speakers of the symposium to review the latest achievements in the field of gene editing (CRISPR).

According to IRNA, scientists used to introduce (gene structure) into cells by virus or vector. Because this work was not controlled, they did not know where the virus was mounted in the DNA and it might not have the desired effect for the researcher. But the CRISPR gene editing method works like scissors, it precisely enters the genome and activates or deactivates the corresponding gene on the DNA, or decreases or increases its expression.

CRISPR technology in humans is in phase one, two, and three clinical stages, it will be finalized soon and if FDA approval is received for many diseases; Thalassemia, hemophilia, blood disease, cancer, and several eye diseases can be treated. It is also possible to cure malaria by sterilizing the mosquitoes that cause it, up to 100%.

The National Research Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, the most important research center under the supervision of the Ministry of Science and active in the field of genetic engineering and biotechnology as a research institute and to conduct scientific, industrial, and especially applied research, was established based on the approval of the Council for the Development of Higher Education in 1966 to To achieve goals such as research in various fields of biological sciences, medicine, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology, and undertake the education and training of specialists and researchers of the country’s universities.

This research institute consists of three institutes agricultural biotechnology, medical biotechnology, and industry and environment biotechnology, each of these institutes has three research groups. Groups also define their priorities based on expertise, facilities, and community needs.
